Empowering Morgantown Through Prevention and Preparedness

The Morgantown Fire Department is dedicated to keeping our residents informed, prepared, and protected. Through hands-on education, community outreach, and interactive demonstrations, we provide programs that help families, schools, and organizations understand how to prevent emergencies and how to respond if one happens.

Below are the education programs we offer throughout Jackson Township and Morgan County, Indiana.

  • Fire Safety: This covers education on preventing, responding to, and recovering from fire incidents. Topics include smoke alarm awareness, proper use of fire extinguishers, cooking safety, and home evacuation procedures. Participants learn how to create escape plans, recognize fire hazards, and take proactive steps to prevent structure fires.
  • Life Safety: We provide education on general emergency preparedness and hazard awareness, helping residents stay safe in everyday environments. This includes preventing slips and falls, learning safe medication storage and disposal, Narcan (naloxone) awareness, and preparing for severe weather. The goal is to empower individuals and families to make safety a daily habit.
  • Touch-A-Truck: Our Touch-A-Truck events are family-friendly opportunities to get up close with real emergency vehicles, including fire engines, and rescue trucks. Children can explore the equipment, meet firefighters, and learn what it’s like to serve their community — inspiring the next generation of firefighters.
  • School Events: We partner with local schools to provide fire and life safety enrichment programs. Firefighters visit classrooms, and assemblies, to teach children about home fire safety, teamwork, and the importance of emergency preparedness in a fun, age-appropriate, and engaging way.
  • Public Events: You can often find us at community festivals, and parades. These events give residents the chance to ask questions, pick up educational materials, and learn about the department’s services in a relaxed setting.
  • Celebrations: We’re available for community celebrations and local club events. Firefighters can bring trucks for display, demonstrate equipment, and talk with kids about safety in a friendly, engaging atmosphere.
  • Fire Station Tours: We welcome visitors to tour our fire station and meet the firefighters who serve their community. Tours include equipment demonstrations, a look inside our apparatus bay, and discussions about the department’s mission, training, and response operations.
  • Guest Speaker: Depending on availability, we can arrange for a Fire Chief or firefighter to present at meetings, schools, or community events. Topics may include fire prevention, emergency planning, disaster preparedness, or an overview of fire department operations and community involvement.
